Fukushima cover up
I don't know a whole lot about nuclear power and radiation. What I do know is that the level being raised for radiation exposure is not right at all. So we have more radiation all over the world due to the Japan nuclear plant and governments fix is raising the levels?? Oh my!!!

Re: Fukushima cover up
Just from a quick look at wikipedia, it seems there are a lot of nuclear reactors spread around the USA, some dating back to the 1950s. So it's hard not to wonder when there's an apparent cover up underway, whether or not the problem's really just from Fukushima, or whether cracks are starting to show in a system beyond control, considering the following...
from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_in_the_United_StatesOf all 132 U.S. nuclear plants built (52% of the 253 originally ordered), 21% were permanently and prematurely closed due to reliability or cost problems, while another 27% have completely failed for a year or more at least once. The surviving U.S. nuclear plants produce ~90% of their full-time full-load potential, but even they are not fully dependable. Even reliably operating nuclear plants must shut down, on average, for 39 days every 17 months for refueling and maintenance, and unexpected failures do occur too

Very scarey thought. Even if we do survive some catastrophic event here on this planet. Will we be able to survive the radiation poisoning afterwards from all the plants?

Re: Fukushima cover up
The simple answer to that is no. And its not just nuclear plants and their reactors we have to be concerned with. There's also nuclear warheads, submarines and who knows what else that could pose a significant danger after a major tectonic shift or some other major worldwide event. The bottom line is that we're likely screwed.

Alternatively, we might have the effect of radiation incidents in great literature. The Fantastic Four, for example, came out of their radiation exposure as mr stretchy, the invisible woman, the human torch, and the brick guy. Science has given us a whole lot of fearful expectations, but, really, it's unexplored territory, and maybe a barrier that faith and strength of will can break through.

News from Japan....
Japan 'scared' of telling truth to Fukushima evacuees

Professor Matsumoto has also revealed details about the stricken plant's operator, TEPCO.
He says TEPCO wanted to abandon the plant at the height of the crisis, but its request was rejected.
"First TEPCO did not convey accurate information about the accident to the prime minister. It tried to make the disaster look small," he said.
"Then TEPCO's headquarters wanted to evacuate the nuclear plant, but the chief of the facility vowed not to leave. So prime minister Kan was outraged because he wasn't getting proper information or the truth."

Eventually scientists are gonna admit that they don't know so much, and stay the hell out of nature's way. The latest from Fukushima :
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-10-15/radioactive-plankton-found-near-fukushima/3573076
Researchers say high concentrations of radioactive caesium have been detected in plankton in the Pacific Ocean off the shattered Fukushima nuclear plant.
The Fukushima nuclear plant was badly damaged in the March earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, and has been leaking radiation ever since.
It is feared more radiation could now enter the food chain.

Re: Fukushima cover up
so what are the key diffrences with this japan and chernobyl?
*containment of radiation?
something like this just dont go away (does it?)
found this you google japan fallout and a ton of links like these are spit out

but they are all of last year...
im not one to fear monger but i do live on the coast of bc
i cant seem to find a straight answer

I know exactly what you mean. There was a heap of information after it happened. Satellite maps showing the flow of radiation over the northern hemisphere. Those maps disappeared, and then there were a number of government sites - from various countries - saying such mapping can't be done. And it's probably been six months since i last looked. If relocating to the southern hemisphere is an option, i'd be seriously considering it.

Radiation may be the missing key element in the next step dna upgrade.
