Earth Signs: Unusual animal behaviour
Statistical and anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that many animals have a sense of impending disaster. A thread for the latest stories about silly bears, wandering mountain lions, and runaway deer...
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/animal_eqs.php wrote:The earliest reference we have to unusual animal behavior prior to a significant earthquake is from Greece in 373 BC. Rats, weasels, snakes, and centipedes reportedly left their homes and headed for safety several days befor a destructive earthquake. Anectdotal evidence abounds of animals, fish, birds, reptiles, and insects exhibiting strange behavior anywhere from weeks to seconds before an earthquake. However, consistent and reliable behavior prior to seismic events, and a mechanism explaining how it could work, still eludes us. Most, but not all, scientists pursuing this mystery are in China or Japan.
We can easily explain the cause of unusual animal behavior seconds before humans feel an earthquake. Very few humans notice the smaller P wave that travels the fastest from the earthquake source and arrives before the larger S wave. But many animals with more keen senses are able to feel the P wave seconds before the S wave arrives. As for sensing an impending earthquake days or weeks before it occurs, that's a different story.

Runaway Deer in Australia
Deer are not native in Australia. There's nothing too natural about Australia's Gold Coast. At its centre is a jungle of skyscrapers built on reclaimed coastal swamp.
I've just watched the news, where a group of deer have been running through Gold Coast streets. So far, nobody seems to know where they've come from.

Then, i find, this has all happened before on the beaches there.

Re: Earth Signs: Unusual animal behaviour
Ya' know, I've been thinking about this for a few days now. Animals react to their natural surroundings. A keen sense that we don't have. Well, that might not be true if we weren't surrounded by skyscrapers and the newest technologies all over the world. I have been hearing of some strange behavior with animals lately and though some may say its nothing unusual, i think it may be. It almost feels as though there's some confusion with some animals lately, and I'm beginning to wonder if it might not have something to do with the sun. As a matter of fact, people in this world today seem to be acting a little more strange than usual. Maybe a neutrino overdose?
Look at that post time!! I can't seem to get away from the 333.

In this case it's not really the "animals" behaving unusually...

Two dolphins overdose at techno rave in a zoo
Shadow and Chelmers died last November at Connyland Zoo in Switzerland
Two dolphins died after inadvertently overdosing at a rave in a zoo in Switzerland.
The animals, called Shadow and Chelmers, died after taking heroin
substitute Buprenorphine at an event which was held last November. It is
thought that it was fed to them by party goers at the techno weekender
at Connyland Zoo in Lipperswil, reports the Huffington Post.
According to reports, Shadow was found dead after the rave, while
Chelmers passed away five days later after "shaking all over and foaming
at the mouth". Chelmers was given adrenaline but died an hour later.
It was initially thought that the pulsing music played at the event was
the cause of the animals' death, but toxicology reports proved
otherwise.
Zookeeper Nadja Gasser has said that both animals had a "drawn out and
painful" death. "It was horrendous," she added to local press, via the Daily Mail. "I have not been able to sleep since."

Re: Earth Signs: Unusual animal behaviour
My dog went a bit strange before the big shake back in Sept. '10. He was whining and whinging for several hours that night and wouldn't settle down. Running through the house (we were in at the time). I thought there may be some-one hanging around so I went outside at 4.30am to check. Saw nothing, came back inside and headed for bed again when there was a helluva 'Boom' and the house started to shake in a most unpleasant manner. The dog disappeared under the bed, the missus landed on the floor and I was tossed from one side of the kitchen to the other bouncing off the walls! The bus was parked in the drive outside the kitchen window and I was thinking that it was going to roll over!
The noise, a deep growling rumbling sound was deafening and the sky was lit up with flashes from the power lines shorting out.
Living in these shaky Isles, we are used to tremblors but that one was a doozey!
